Seek The Truth In The News

As I look at what is occurring in our country, I have taken pause so many times. I need to say we as a nation have been led astray by numerous purported news services. That is many cable networks that purport to be news services are in fact not. Instead they are editorial services that have missions to influence not inform. Two in particular are MSNBC and FOX. MSNBC panders to the left side of the political spectrum. FOX panders to the right. This is not necessarily bad, for each side should be able to tell its own story. However, they should identify themselves for what they are OPINION networks. What the downside of this has been is that the populous uses the networks not to learn and be informed. Instead, people use these networks to justify their own personal positions. We also have numerous blogs that report things as if they were news. However, often this purported news is in fact pure unadulterated fiction and fantasy. Then without checking the facts people repost them via social media as if these fantasies are fact. It is as if people believe that the captain of the Titanic was found alive smoking his pipe in a rowboat yesterday. It appears as if our populous has allowed itself to be manipulated in order to prove his or her views. We should as citizens in a democracy seek the truth. Learning what we don’t know is more important than confirming beliefs that are based on lies, falsehoods and innuendo. An example of what I have addressed is Common Core. I have heard so many talk about how these standards apply to so many subjects it has no effect on. Let me clear up the haze. Common Core contrary to what numerous people believe only effects two subjects. These subjects are ELS also known as English Language Skills. The second and last subject involved in Common Core is Math. If you don’t believe me do your own research. It’s simple and will only take a couple of minutes. The paragraph above is an example of the truth and facts that apply to a subject. Why do so many sources misinform us? Does it matter? The point I am trying to get across is in a democracy we must take responsibility ourselves to learn the truth from original sources. My own feeling is the more I know the more I know I don’t know. What I do know is as they said on X Files: “The truth is out there.” We must seek the truth, not what politicians and media want us to believe is the truth. If you find out you have depended on information that proves to be false be true to yourself and others. Admit you were wrong. Write comments on posts that are proven to be inaccurate after your personal research. Look to yourself first to help stop the madness. Remember if it seems too good to be true it probably isn't. Realize in politics it isn't always about what you see but how you see it. It takes a brave person to admit their errors.
